Pirates make hay while Microsoft lets the sun shine

A month back we told you how to get hold of Windows 8 Media Center for your Windows 8 PC for free. And it seems like pirates have used this method to find a workaround in the Windows activation program Using this method, you can now simply activate your copy of Windows 8! Below is screenshot of my Windows 8 Pro with Media Center edition which I purchased last month. As you can see it shows the software as activated. I didn’t have to do anything special to activate Windows since I upgraded from within Windows 7. However, if you’ve […]

Search for attachments in Gmail by size

Gmail’s advanced search feature is extremely powerful. I usually use this for for searching for emails from recipients or with certain labels. Today, Gmail rolled out a new feature on searching through your emails. This feature allows you to search for attachments of a particular size and from a particular period. This means, for example, to find emails larger than 5MB, you can search for size:5m or larger:5m or to find emails sent over a year ago, older_than:1y. Do you find the feature useful. For me searching for attachments would be much less used. But, I would most likely be […]

Improve your productivity with Gmail’s new compose experience

Composing emails in a desktop client like Thunderbird or Postbox allows you switch back and forth between windows easily. Look up your other emails for reference or just let the Compose window sit in the background while you check new mail. By contrast most web-based clients don’t give you this flexibility and Gmail hopes to remedy that with the new compose feature. The new compose pops up in a window. It works the same way as chats allowing you to write multiple messages at once and minimise a message to finish it later or browse through your email which sits […]

How to divide two arrays with SUMPRODUCT in Excel

Way back in 2008, I wrote about using SUMPRODUCT to duplicate the functionality of SUMIFS which was introduced in Microsoft Excel 2007. SUMPRODUCT is a powerful excel function and is more commonly used to multiply two arrays. Let’s first understand the syntax of SUMPRODUCT. If you’re impatient, you can skip the tutorial and download the sample excel file from the end of this post. It contains solved examples with the related formulae. We’ll be using the following table in the example. Syntax: SUMPRODUCT(array1,array2,array3, …) Array1, array2, array3, …     are 2 to 255 arrays whose components you want to multiply and […]

Opera releases 12.10 beta; adds Windows 8 support

Opera has always been one of my favourite browers. It’s fast and they have steady update to valuations. It still needs to go a long way to get close to Chrome or Firefox in terms of add-on support, but it’s a good alternate browser, if you need one. The Opera team have released 12.10 beta. Opera 12.10 beta offers a big boost of speed, along with better compatibility across websites, improve standards support, new capabilities for extensions, as well as with the major operating systems in use today.
