Software Saturday: Foxit Reader

Using Adobe Reader has been the traditional method of viewing PDFs, can’t blame them since they are after all the main folks behind the PDF revolution. However, one complain that everyone has had wrt Adobe Reader has been its massive load time. I will admit that the latest version, 8, does load extremely quickly. But the download is well more than 20MB. Hence, it has been time to look for a lighter alternative. And in walks Foxit Reader 2.0. Foxit Reader 2.0 is a free PDF document viewer and printer. The download is a little over 1.5MB, which means you’re […]

Quickly split large MP3 files with Mega MP3 Splitter

Have ever converted an audio-tape to digital format? If you are doing so, the normal way is recording via the Line-In. The recorded audio is a single long file. You could use a high-end complex graphical tool to split this mp3 or you can use MP3 Splitter. MP3 Splitter is an MP3 audio editing utility that is used to split an MP3 into multiple files (tracks). This utility is perfect for dividing those long radio shows or mixes that you have. Using the program is very simple. You select the MP3 file and enter the breakpoints in the list. You […]

Upgraded to Ella; She sure gave me trouble!

I decided to take the plunge today and upgrade to WordPress 2.1 codenamed Ella. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the easy going upgrade that Mark had. I followed the upgrade instructions and ran /wp-admin/upgrade.php and decided to check the site. Found out that the pages were throwing up 404 errors. Thought it to be a normal problem with the Permalinks, but regenerating them didn’t solve any issue. So I next decided to edit and resave all the pages, only to discover that the upgrade had “eaten up” all the pages. It was kinda shocking. The user in me started panicing, while […]

Found this at Techcrunch. For those who are waiting desperately for Apple’s iPhone, you can now download this image, print it out, fold it along the dotted lines and you have you’re very own iPhone. Who says the best things in life aren’t for free? Sneakmove also has a version of this in PDF format, which instructions. Ohh… the iPhone doesn’t function. If you want a working product, you’re just going to have to wait. And yes, at times the best things in life come for a price […]

WordPress 2.1 released

WordPress 2.1 has just been released by the WordPress development team. I personally and I’m sure many others two were not very happy with WordPress 2.0 and several of the features it added. But, it was a major well received and easy-to-work-around-things-I-don’t-like release. WordPress 2.1 has been released differently. You can vote on/post ideas to better WordPress and based on their rating many of the features have been implemented in 2.1. This is also the procedure being followed for the upcoming 2.2 version due out on April 23. 2.1 has several additions both on a user point of view as […]

WordPress releases 2.0.7; Security Bugs squashed

The WordPress team has just released WordPress 2.0.7. It fixes a PHP security problem. This problem effects only certain versions of PHP. It also fixes the Feedburner issue I reported earlier. If you haven’t upgraded to even 2.0.6, I recommend that you upgrade your blog ASAP, because all versions prior to 2.0.6 have a big security bug. If you are already running 2.0.6, then you only need to upload these files: wp-admin/inline-uploading.php wp-admin/post.php wp-includes/classes.php wp-includes/functions.php wp-settings.php wp-includes/version.php Changes since 2.0.6 from the dev-blog: Security fix for wp_unregister_GLOBALS() to work around the zend_hash_del_key_or_index bug in PHP 4 versions less than 4.4.3 […]

Hack Windows Vista; Get Paid

Less than a month after Trend Micro discovered Vista flaws being sold off for $50,000 in the underground market by hackers, VeriSign’s iDefense Labs has placed an $8,000 bounty on remote code execution holes in Windows Vista and Internet Explorer 7. This is part of its three-year old Vulnerability Contributor Program which compensates individuals who provide iDefense with advance notification of unpublished vulnerabilities and/or exploit code. 3Com’s Zero Day Initiative is a similar program. The first submission on any vulnerability of the above two products wins $8000 to a max of six payments. The vulnerability “must be remotely exploitable and […]

If you have upgraded your site to WordPress 2.0.6 and are using Feedburner to serve your feeds, then this post is for you. Neosmart found a problem with the way WordPress served feeds to Feedburner. It had to be coming. As part of its monthly patches release, Microsoft will be releasing eight security bulletins with patches for a several Windows and Office vulnerabilities. Three of the four Office patches to be released have been stated as “critical” while one or more of the three Windows patches have been given the same level.
