New Menu in Gmail = More Confusion?!?

Opened my Gmail today and was surprised to find a brand new menu at the top of my emails. Two new buttons have been added to the interface, viz. Move To and Labels. Gmail has always had labels as opposed to the traditional folders of other mail services like Yahoo! Mail or Windows Live Mail. This ensures that a single email can be tagged with more than one label if it pertains to different topics. This becomes extremely useful in finding your emails by topic. Traditionally the Labels could be applied from the More Actions drop down and by moving […]

Remove AVG completely from your Computer

There was a time I swore by AVG as an antivirus. Though I have Nod32 installed on my laptop, I installed AVG on any and every computer I came across. Sadly, v8 is a total mess and I quickly switched over to Avast which is really excellent. The problem with almost every antivirus is that it leaves behind files on your computer. These files may interfere with the new antivirus program you are uninstalling. Fortunately, AVG provides you a remover utility that will cleanly remove itself from your computer. AVG Remover utility removes all parts of AVG installation on your […]

Adobe Flash coming to the iPhone

Apple and Adobe are teaming up to create a flash player for the iPhone. Narayen (Adobe Executive) said that he was “pleased with progress” since June of 2008. Apple CEO Steve Jobs originally claimed that Adobe Flash was too resource-heavy for the iPhone. The iPhone has a YouTube application that can transcode flash videos to .H264 on-the-fly, so the iPhone should be fine with Adobe Flash on Safari. Currently on the iPhone SDK guidelines plug-ins for Safari are not permitted, so it looks like there will be a change of rules. My Viewpoint: Apple should make a flash player that […]

When Gmail came out a few years ago extremely was very pleased with the brand new shiny email service that came up in competition with Yahoo! Mail and Hotmail. Gmail has a new Lab feature that uses Gears allows you to store your email offline on your computer. Dynamic JavaScript with PHP

Early this morning, I released Top 10 – A Page Counter and Popular Posts plugin for WordPress. I detailed my experience while designing this plugin. The major problem that I faced while working with this plugin was with WP Super Cache. WP Super Cache creates a static file of your post and displays this to the viewer. As a result, any PHP code that is present in your WordPress blog template is executed only once and the cached file is then served to your visitor. The initial version of Top 10 used PHP to record the page views as well […]
