I never had the need for a screen recording software to date, however, this is one of the best ways to put up some video tutorials. Wink is a good free software, however Camtasia Studio is feature rich paid software, that has been out of my budget until now. As part of a promotion drive for Camtasia Studio 5, TechSmith is offering Camtasia Studio 3 for free.
Multimedia Monday: MediaCoder
MediaCoder is a FREE universal audio/video batch transcoder distributed under GPL license, which puts together lots of excellent audio/video codecs and tools from the open source community into an all-in-one solution, capable of transcoding among different audio/video formats. The best feature of MediaCoder is the ability to transcode files in batch format. If you’re looking to load your music player and you have all your files in different formats, then you can use MediaCoder to convert them all into the format supported by your player.
Tool Tuesday: IE NetRenderer
If you’re on a Mac or you have already upgraded to Internet Explorer 7, then you’ll be pretty lost about how your site looks like on lower versions of Internet Explorer. For me this is a big problem because half my visitors to my several sites are still using IE6 and you have to admit that IE6 is a pathetic browser. IE7 is a lot more compliant and displays sites a lot correctly than its predecessors.
Multimedia Monday: jetAudio Basic
I’m very picky about how I play my music and videos and have several different media players installed that fulfil different purposes. One such player is jetAudio Basic which is my primary player for playing folders or playlists. jetAudio comes in a free Basic version and a paid Plus version.
Software Saturday: PortaPutty
Almost everyone who has SSH access to their accounts will be well aware of PuTTY which is a free Telnet and SSH Client. PuTTY has saved tonnes of time because using shell is a definite time saver over most other methods. If you have just one site to manage, then it isn’t a problem.

Using Adobe Reader has been the traditional method of viewing PDFs, can’t blame them since they are after all the main folks behind the PDF revolution. However, one complain that everyone has had wrt Adobe Reader has been its massive load time. I will admit that the latest version, 8, does load extremely quickly.
