How to export your RSS subscriptions from Google Reader

By now, most of the web is abuzz with news of Google axing its Google Reader, which is a platform that most bloggers, including me, identify with. With the demise of Google Reader, Nick has also decided to kill FeedDemon, most of you might already be hunting for alternatives. Three popular names doing the rounds are Feedly, Newsblur and Netvibes. And, you even have a petition created on Change.org that has over 75,000 signatures at the time that I signed it. I […]

How to take a screenshot on Google Nexus 7

In the past taking a screenshot from your Android device was a painful experience requiring you to root your device. Even today, many of the screenshot apps available on Google Play require root access. However, if you’re running Android Jelly Bean then you don’t need any special apps to take screenshots, since the OS comes inbuilt with support for them! The screenshot that you see above is without using an app. All you need to do is to press the Power button and the Volume down button at exactly the same time. Keep if pressed for around 2 seconds and […]

Opera switches to Webkit from Presto

Opera announced today that they have crossed the 300m users mark. The browser has seen an increasing adoption amongst users across all its platforms. I’ve been using Opera for several years now at a time when it was ad-supported. It’s not my primary browser because I miss the extensive extension support that Firefox and Chrome provide, but it is a good alternative. Till now Opera has been using Presto as the rendering engine. However, this is something that they have been dedicating tremendous resources to maintain and in order to grow, Opera has decided to adopt Webkit and focus its […]

How to create CSS3 animated buttons in WordPress

I remember when I first started working with websites more than a decade ago, if you wanted a cool looking button in your form, you had to use images. Images still remain an option but with CSS this has is being gradually phased out. CSS3 completely eliminates the need for images for creating basic good looking designs. And, buttons are one such design that you can cleanly replace with CSS3. One definite plus for this is that you reduce the file size of your pages. If you’re looking to include CSS3 animated buttons in WordPress, look no further than All […]

How to quickly kill a program in Windows

During my regular work, I tend to face repeated issues of Excel hanging. This can be really frustrating because a stuck Excel means a painful wait for Windows to figure out what it wants to do with the process. Unfortunately, there isn’t much I can do about this because it is mainly due to addons that I have installed in Excel, which are required for me to do my job coupled with large files with tens of sheets and hundreds of rows with data. In this scenario, the method that most Windows users do is open up Task Manager and […]
