Come January, Green means Clean, atleast for IE7

Phishing Scams have been a major problem for large corporations. As of today there aren’t any sure fire solutions. IE, Firefox and Opera as well today implement a check to see if the site is fraudulent or not. The CA Browser Forum, an organization comprised of companies that issue certificates for Web sites and major browser makers, has prepared a draft set of guidelines to protect users. Among this is a colored address bar. And Microsoft is planning on implementing the same in IE7 in January, reports C|Net. Website will be able to get hold of an EV SSL Certificate […]

Template Problems in IE6

I’m rather frustrated. I’ve been using Internet Explorer 7 at home and didn’t realize that this site is all screwed in Internet Explorer 6 until it was pointed out to me. I’m at a friends place trying to debug the problem, but it just doesn’t seem to want to go away! I’m totally clueless about how to get the site to display properly on IE6. There are no issues with Opera, Firefox and IE7. In IE6 the sidebar goes to the bottom and the top menu button gets narrow in height when there is an image. Any CSS experts out […]

WP-Plugin: Open Picture Window Plugin v1.1

I have just updated my Open Picture Window Plugin for WordPress. The only update is the much requested Quick Tags button. The plugin still doesn’t have a button for the WYSIWYG editor. I’m still working on that. Turns out to be a bit more complex that I was expected. Anyway, if you are not using the WYSIWYG then you’re in luck. The quicktags button with the name OPW should now be visible in your editor. This works similar to the link button, but it requests you for the window dimensions and title in addition to the URL. Would you like […]

Windows Live Mail now in Netherlands

Windows Live Mail has now been launched in the Netherlands. This can be accessed at mail.live.nl. This means that existing Hotmail users in the Netherlands can migrate their existing accounts to Windows Live. Alternatively, they can create new @live.nl accounts. I wonder when they will come to […]

Google Accidentally Sends Out Kama Sutra Worm

PC World reports that staffers at Google accidentally sent out e-mail containing a mass mailing worm to about 50,000 members of an e-mail discussion list focused on its Google Video Blog. The worm called W32/Kapser.A@mm is better known as the Kama Sutra worm. Google says that protocols are now in place to ensure that this doesn’t repeat. The worm is blocked by antivirus software, so I don’t think any person who has an antivirus running would have faced a problem with the worm. However, worth noting is that users would generally trust files being sent by the Google Team. Anything […]

Hotmail to be 1GB

Microsoft has taken one more step towards migrating all its users to Windows Live Mail. Inboxes of Hotmail users will now be upgraded to 1GB of space. This will be done irrespective of the market and account age, i.e. factors that used to be considered earlier while upgrading accounts. Currently Hotmail offers 250MB only in the 50 United States, District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Eligible Hotmail users will first receive 25MB at sign-up and are later upgraded to 250MB. Users of Windows Live Mail, which is currently in beta stage already receive 2GB space, so this upgrade will not […]

Windows Live Search for Messenger

New on the Windows Live Messenger activities list is integration with Window Live Search. All you have to do is open a messenger window and select Search from the Activities list. A side window is opened where you can perform your search. This is a single user activity, i.e. the person you are chatting with has no clue that you are using the search activity (tested this out with a pal of mine). You can search the Web, Images and News. You can also insert the results in the chat window with a single click. Really useful if you want […]

Security Patch Released for Simple Machines

Simple Machines has just released a security patch for SMF. This release addresses a cross-site scripting vulnerability in the search function. The fix for the 1.0.x has been released as 1.0.9. The version number of 1.1RC3 has remained as is, but you need to download and update your SMF installation ASAP! Just last week my forum was hacked. I’m not sure if this is the reason, but having your software vulnerable XSS is a sure shot way to getting hacked. Read the complete release notification or download the latest version. Direct Download: Download the files below (you may need to […]
