Excel Tutorial: SUMIF with Multiple Conditions

The title of the post is a bit of a misnomer because the SUMIF function in Excel does not allow you to have more than condition. Excel 2007 introduced the SUMIFS function which allowed for multiple conditions. However, if you are using any version prior to Excel 2007 or if the persons who will be using your Excel workbook will be using a version prior to Excel 2007, then the SUMIF function will throw up an error. Tutorial Thursday: Saving Office 2007 Files

By default, the new Microsoft Office 2007 Suite saves files in the new format. e.g. Word files are now stored as .docx, Excel files are stored as .xlsx and so on. The problem with this format is that it cannot be read on any Office installation below 2007. So, if you send this to a friend of yours running Office 2003, he/she will not be able to even open your file! Ten Fixes, but Word remains Unpatched!

I reported that Microsoft had planned to release Office Fixes today. It did release office fixes, but the zero-day bug in Word still remains unpatched. eWeek reports that four were pulled citing problems with the quality of the updates. The first confirmed Vista flaw also remains unpatched. However, a critical Windows VML bug which was being actively exploited. For more details and an explanation of the bug visit the eWeek article. Microsoft to release Critical MS Office Fixes today

It had to be coming. As part of its monthly patches release, Microsoft will be releasing eight security bulletins with patches for a several Windows and Office vulnerabilities. These include the patches for Microsoft Word which had remained unpatched last month. Three of the four Office patches to be released have been stated as “critical” while one or more of the three Windows patches have been given the same level. Beware: Vulnerability in Microsoft Word

In a new Security Advisory, Microsoft has reported a vulnerability in Microsoft Word 2000, Microsoft Word 2002, Microsoft Office Word 2003, Microsoft Word Viewer 2003, Microsoft Word 2004 for Mac, and Microsoft Word 2004 v. X for Mac, as well as Microsoft Works 2004, 2005, and 2006. Using the vulnerability, an attacker can launch a Zero Day attack. This can only be exploited if a Malicious Word file is opened.
