Few days back I told you why you should buy the Nexus 5. In the article, I did touch upon the relatively smaller battery size of the Nexus 5. The first day I used my Nexus 5, I ended up draining the battery in a few hours, which was normal. After all, anyone who buys a new phone doesn’t put it down until it is up and running the way they want it! I must admit I was a bit disappointed the second day because I returned to relatively normal use but had to charge the phone at the end of the day. It was also the same day I installed Snapdragon BatteryGuru.
The Snapdragon BatteryGuru app is designed to intelligently learn your usage patterns on the majority of Snapdragon powered smartphones. It then uses that data to optimize your battery life without disabling your smartphone’s functionalities and delivers notifications to plug in if the battery won’t last until the next regular charge time, and a daily reminder to ensure a regular charge isn’t missed.
I tried a few battery optimizers on my Nexus 7. While they do deliver a good performance and help improve battery life, I was a very surprised to see how good Snapdragon BatteryGuru is. It also gives you an idea of how your battery is just eaten by apps sitting in the background.
Here are the results after the app started optimizing processes on my Nexus 5. And, this is with my regular usage including phone calls, SMS , email and WhatsApp.
And, this is just by using the default settings. BatteryGuru lets you also configure your apps and control how much to optimize. You have three levels of settings to control the refresh behavior of the various apps. I’ve gone ahead and reduced the refresh rate (Set it to Only when you open it) of many of the apps like Google Play Music, etc. because I don’t use them as much as other apps like Gmail or WhatsApp.
If you own a Nexus 5 or any other phone which has a Snapdragon processor, I strongly recommend getting hold of Snapdragon BatteryGuru. It’s will definitely allow you to extend your battery life!
