How to use your own Domain with FeedBurner

One little known and even lesser used feature of Feedburner is called MyBrand.

MyBrand lets you use your own domain name to host your feed instead of feedproxy.google.com or feeds.feedburner.com.

e.g. I could change my feed address from feedproxy.google.com/Techtites to feeds.techtites.com/Techtites

The first step is to decide what domain you wish to use for your feeds. If you have some kind of blog network or a parent company, then this should ideally be your domain. Infact, you can even use a completely different domain name just for feeds.

Let’s stick to feeds.techtites.com for now. We’ll enter that URL in Step 1 on the MyBrand page.

Enter your domain that you wish to use for your feeds

Step 2 is the more complicated step. Depending on the kind of access you have, you may be either be able to do this on your own or you will need to contact your host.

If you are using cPanel and have access to WHM, then this job is really easy. Goto Edit Dns Zone, select your domain (in this case techtites.com) and hit Edit to open the page with the DNS zone.

First, copy the CNAME entry that is specified in step 2. In my case, the entry is ajaydsouzagmail.feedproxy.ghs.google.com.. Those who are still not using feedproxy will note the entry as feeds.feedburner.com.

Copy the CNAME entry to be entered in the DNS Zone

In the DNS Settings for the domain in WHM, enter the settings as in the image below.

Edit DNS Zone in WHM

The DNS should update within 24 hours. After that you can start using this for your feeds. Your original feed will also work as your new domain just serves as an alternative URL.

This is an account wide settings, which means all your feeds that you burned will work with this new domain.
