Have seen a lot of Flock the past few days and decided to investigate. For those who don’t know yet, Flock is a new browser based on Firefox. Wasn’t really into downloading it until I saw Matt’s post which got me interested.
Lately I’ve come across a lot of persons asking me about the privacy of blogging. Others tell me that they seem to know a lot about me by reading my personal blog even without meeting me. This led me to actually evaluate the privacy of having your own blog.
Splog is short for a “Spam Blog”. This is a blog with absolutely no useful information made for targeting search engines. Most of the slogs I have seen gather their content automatically usually gathering that from other sites by robbing their feeds or by random generation of content.
Following discussions at the WordPress support forums, bug #1713, the bug was fixed by Changset #2933 In simple English, WordPress confirms pingbacks with a blank user-agent. The latest version of Bad Behavior blocks sites with send a blank user agent, as this is a common technique being used by spammers to get through user agent filters. I faced a similar problem with Silktide and added their IP to the whitelist.
The last two days have seen long page loads along with temporary downtime at WordPress.com Well things seem to be back on track now. Though I do have a feeling that an older backup was used, because I seem to have lost a comment on my post below.
Had always hosted WordPress as my personal blog while chose to start using Blogger just as a test.
