Manually searching for duplicates will become a very tedious job. That is why Similarity was created.

Similarity is a freeware program sized at nearly 1 MB; the application is compatible with Windows. Currently available languages of Similarity are English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Czech, and Bosnian.

The application helps us find and remove duplicate musical files in MP3, WMA, OGG, WAV, FLAC, APE, WV, and MPC formats. Similarity hunts duplicates by comparing files’ sound content, in addition to comparing sizes of files and their tags (supported music tags are ID3, WMF, and Vorbis).

Folderico is a similar folder organization program that Windows 7 users, in particular, will enjoy.

To enable Nested Labels, go over into your Gmail Labs section (or click here). Scroll down to the Nested Labels field and choose the “enable” option on the right.

Now scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the button that saves your settings.

Next, come to your Gmail dashboard and have a look at the options on the left. Create a new label.

Suppose this label is going to be your main folder. Let us name it “Main” for now.

Now suppose you want to create a subfolder in Main. For this you repeat the same label-creating process but add the “Main/” prefix to your label. For example if you want the subfolder to be called “TheSubFolder,” create a new label and name it “Main/TheSubFolder.”

If you want TheSubFolder to contain a subfolder titled “ThisOne,” create a new label with the following name: “Main/TheSubFolder/ThisOne.”

To the left, you will see the hierarchy of folders each time you create a new label.

Now you can sort your emails as you want within these folders.

But Firefox was not to be outdone in the arena of add-ons related to Google. Now there is a new Google-related add-on for Firefox which is giving me another reason to shift my default browser back to Firefox. The add-on is called Google Shortcuts.

The Google Shortcuts Firefox add-on was created by the developer Soeren Rinne. He writes that the idea occurred to him while writing his Bachelor’s thesis. As he started to use an increasing number of Google’s services, he thought it would be more convenient to place shortcuts right on the browser. The result was this great add-on.

To execute this function, a number of archiving application can be used. However if you are not willing to actually install an application, you can employ a simple executable file for the task by using Protect Me.

Free and merely a 300KB archive to download, all we need to with Protect Me is extract the setup archive and run the extracted EXE file.

Then we drag in our files (up to 4GB) in the top pane. Each file addition will be viewable. In the field below we enter the password to open our formed container. Once we are done, we click on the CREATE CONTAINER button. This action will generate a container file with the EXE extension. When we open this EXE file, a screen asks us for our set password.

Upon right entry, our files can be extracted from the archive.

Remember that the original file will remain as it is in its original location. If you want to completely secure the file, you will need to delete the original files and have them present only in the container.

One flaw I encountered in the application is that the EXE container we create can be easily deleted. If somebody trying to guess our password fails repeatedly, he/she might get frustrated enough to delete our file altogether. For a long time my favorite startpage tool had been Fav4 which is a startpage website. But after I discovered and used Incredible StartPage, I knew that I would never use Fav4 again.

Incredible StartPage is a browser extension for the web browser Google Chrome. This extension lets us set our startpage in a very unique way. Along with having our selected bookmarks on the startpage, we also get our recently closed tabs and notes.

Once we install the extension we are shown a page which describes the extension and suggests other Chrome extension by the same developer.

To get started with setting our startpage, we need to open a new tab.

Starting from the top, the yellow notepad lets us take down notes in a font which I like.

After we take down a note, we can even post it to Gmail using the link at the bottom right of the notepad.

The CLOSED area shows us our recently closed tabs. Also, if we close a tab by accident, here is where we can recover it from. The box to the right of the CLOSED box lets us browse all our bookmarks.

If we want we can drag bookmarks from here to the main box to our right.

By default this window only has bookmarks from our Bookmarks Toolbar. But we can always add new shortcuts from the BOOKMARKS window in the startpage.

Apart from all these features, we can customize the theme of our startpage using the OPTIONS button which is located in the top right of our startpage.

AnyColor is an add-on that changes the look of your Firefox browser. You can easily change the appearance of your browser with just a few clicks. There are many themes you can choose from and it is very easy to customize them or create your own.

After the add-on is installed you will prompted to restart Firefox after which you will be able to view AnyColor’s startpage.

On this startpage you can choose a color scheme from the pane on the left. You can even choose to enable certain tweaks by checking the boxes in the left. A button lets you add the add-on’s toolbar to Firefox to quickly shift between themes.

The toolbar is located in the Main Menu bar and can be accessed to view the available options.

We can access the add-on’s options from here to customize an existing theme or start building an entirely new theme with a new color scheme and a custom background image.

I know I have tried a pretty ugly looking color scheme here but this is just to give you an idea of how you can create your own custom themes by simply playing with the colors.

Understanding foreign language films is possible only by having the appropriate subtitles with them. But that is not the only scenario in which subtitles can be useful; say you’re watching a movie with a low audio volume or are watching an actor whose mumbling is making it difficult for you to understand the dialogue. In all situations, subtitles are your best friends.

So what do you do to get subtitles? You enter the name of the movie (whether it’s the English name or the original name, you find by trial and error) on some subtitles hosting website and then test from a series of subtitles until you find the right one.

Sublight is a free desktop application that lets you search for movie subtitles in the most competent way possible. It provides you with two methods of searching for subtitles. Method 1 lets you enter the various details of the video like the title and year. Method 2 requires you to specify the video file and the title and year are found automatically by Sublight.

After choosing either method, you can proceed to search for subtitles and the results will be displayed. There will be an orange bar with the results other users have found successful. The results are shown along with the website they belong to.

If you get a lot of results you can narrow them down by filtration; you can specify the language, rate, publisher, and number of discs of the subtitle file by clicking on the Filter Results button:

Results from some sites like Podnapisi can be highlighted; then you can click ‘Play Subtitle with File’ to directly start viewing the video with its subtitles in the media player you specify during installation. Double clicking on subtitles belonging to other sites such as AllSubs, will take you to the host’s page where you will need to download directly.

There are even results which take you to the IMDB or OMDB pages of your video file and provide you with more information. You can also access the details of the subtitles file and preview it to check the quality of language in the translation. If the subtitle has these options available, you can access them by right clicking on the result:

In case there your search result doesn’t show up any orange colored subtitles, you might need to try a few ones before you get it right. However it is still less time consuming since you can select a result and directly press Play With Subtitles and instantly see whether or not it’s a match.
