This site doesn't use the traditional method of subscription through newsletter, but the rather modern, extremely easy to use subscription using Web Feeds.
So what exactly is a Feed?
Feeds allow you to see when websites have added new content. You can get the latest headlines (as well as the story) as soon as its published, without having to visit the websites you have taken the feed from.
In essence, the feeds themselves are just web pages, designed to be read by computers rather than people.
RSS is one such type of Feed, while Atom is the other.
The chief advantage a feed has over traditional email subscription is that your email address doesn't need to be disclosed.

How do I read Feeds?
Feeds are read using a feed reader. You have both online and offline feedreaders. Two of my favorite offline feedreaders are FeedDemon and Feedreader.
There are numerous online feedreaders today, my favorite being Netvibes, because it is so much more than just a reader. Few others would be Pageflakes and Google Reader.
