DivShare for Sale?

DivShare, the free file hosting site did come with a bang. It did expand quickly due to its easy integration with WordPress as well as Facebook.

However, four days back, in a post at DNForum, DivShare has been put up for sale. It seems more like an auction as the price has not been mentioned and the user has been requesting quotes via PM.

Techcrunch caught on the story, which was originally posted at sitesfs and the news of this has spread. Techcrunch states that the developers of DivShare are silent about the sale.

I haven’t used DivShare much, infact only to host a WordPress Upgrade file (have pulled it off since). Similar is the case with other file sharing services that I reviewed.

What makes me wonder is what happens to all your data in case such a service goes bust. I’ve been using Mozy for all my backups, but my suggestion is to put all your important files on atleast another service or a hard-drive.

Service Saturday: IndiaNewsBox

IndiaNewsBox is a new Indian startup that aims at being a news aggregator to display news on a single page while preserving the segregation in news source.

Currently they offer news from the following categories:

  • National Headlines
  • International Headlines
  • Business
  • Sports -> Cricket
  • Technology News
  • Showbiz
  • Regional News -> Hindi
  • Regional News -> Kannada
  • Market News
  • Indian Blogs

Each page has nine different sources for news. Clicking on an article takes you to the respective page.

I like the idea of having just nine major sources because it ensures that you are not overloaded with content to read. At the same time you get all the latest news.

While it is no substitute for a full fledged feedreader, it is a good idea worth watching.

Yahoo! launches oneSearch

Yahoo!

Results from Yahoo! oneSearch

Citing a brand new “tack” of returning and displaying results on mobile devices using the same old search technology, Yahoo! has launched oneSearch, which is a search engine service for your mobile phone.

What is different about oneSearch (as the name suggests) is that in addition providing relevant links to web and mobile web sites, oneSearch provides results of business listings, movies, sports, news, events, celebrity gossip, stock/finance information in a single query. This means quicker access to content that you might want to go through while searching.
