Microsoft Drops Courier Tablet Project
At technology’s impressive pace, we reach breakthrough every day. Handheld devices are evolving at an exponential rate. The Courier Tablet was a pristine example of this. Sadly, I use the word “WAS” because Microsoft no longer plans to carry on with their amazing vision of the innovative tablet device.
In case you are unfamiliar with what the Courier Tablet is (was), take a look at this picture:

Courier Tablet was to be a dual display tablet device. Both the screens were touchscreens. The tablet’s uniqueness was in the fact that it could be closed like a physical diary or journal. Users could simply open it up, use the supplied ‘pen’ to write on it and store notes. It was also supposed to come with a camera and Wi-Fi capabilities.
In my opinion, the tablet would have been an excellent competitor to Apple’s iPad and perhaps even netbooks.
But Microsoft has recently announced that it has dropped the entire Courier Tablet project. No solid reason was given by Microsoft as to why this decision was made. Frank Show, Microsoft’s Corporate VP of Communications, said this in a statement: “At any given time, we’re looking at new ideas, investigating, testing, incubating them. It’s in our DNA to develop new form factors and natural user interfaces to foster productivity and creativity. The Courier project is an example of this type of effort. It will be evaluated for use in future offerings, but we have no plans to build such a device at this time.”
While I and fellow technology enthusiasts are disappointed over Microsoft’s decision, perhaps the Courier Tablet idea will not be completely scrapped. Its concepts might be incorporated into future devices by Microsoft or maybe some other company will act quickly and create their own dual display tablet.

Yahoo! publicizing the Internet Explorer
I’ve seen a lot of “ads” on websites asking you to shift to Firefox. But, it isn’t often that you see an ad asking you to shift to IE.
But, today while checking my Yahoo! Mail on the Classic interface, I saw this. (Check the text I circled)
![]()
It leads you to a download page where Yahoo! is distributing a customised version of Internet Explorer 8, optimized for Yahoo!

The browser has a built in Yahoo! Homepage, Yahoo! Toolbar and Yahoo! Search for quick access to Yahoo!

Search both Bing and Google at the same time
I’ve been using Bing quite a bit since its release and it has turned out to be one of the better search engines. I still prefer Google’s search results and usually switch between the two.
But, if you want to search both, you can choose to switch between windows, or even better save yourself some time and search using Bing vs. Google.
It is not a new concept, but rather quite an old one right from several years back when you had Google, Yahoo! and the erstwhile MSN.
There are still quite a few features that I would like to see added in Bing, the most common one being the use of “define:” for quickly hunting the meaning of words/phrases.
Visit Bing vs. Google.
