Facebook acquires Friendfeed
Just read on 901am today that Facebook has acquired Friendfeed. The details of the transaction haven’t been given or how much the acquisition is for. The synergies for Facebook are very good and it help attract a few more users (not that they don’t have many!).
This is also a good move for Friendfeed, which has always been in the shadow of Twitter. Currently Friendfeed continue to function independently. There still isn’t a timeline on when Friendfeed will get “incorporated” into Facebook, so it is still a wait and watch.
For more information, check out the Friendfeed blog post and the Facebook press release.
If you’re on Friendfeed add @ajaydsouza. And have you become a fan of Techtites on Facebook?

Technorati Acquires BlogCritics
Technorati acquired Blogcritics.org some time back. I signed up with Blogcritics.org several years back as well as its desi concern Desicritics.org. However, I gave up on both after a few posts. Well, honestly, I don’t think I will writing now either. What would be interesting to watch now is what happens to Blogcritics with the new acquisition.

DivShare for Sale?
DivShare, the free file hosting site did come with a bang. It did expand quickly due to its easy integration with WordPress as well as Facebook.
However, four days back, in a post at DNForum, DivShare has been put up for sale. It seems more like an auction as the price has not been mentioned and the user has been requesting quotes via PM.
Techcrunch caught on the story, which was originally posted at sitesfs and the news of this has spread. Techcrunch states that the developers of DivShare are silent about the sale.
I haven’t used DivShare much, infact only to host a WordPress Upgrade file (have pulled it off since). Similar is the case with other file sharing services that I reviewed.
What makes me wonder is what happens to all your data in case such a service goes bust. I’ve been using Mozy for all my backups, but my suggestion is to put all your important files on atleast another service or a hard-drive.

Google Acquires Feedburner
TechCrunch reports that Google has acquired Feedburner for $100 million dollars. This is indeed a great achievement for Feedburner. For us publishers, I see a lot of good things in store…

Automattic acquires IntenseDebate (WordPress Wednesday)
In an announcement on their blog, Intense Debate stated that they have been acquired by Automattic.
IntenseDebate is a comment system that enhances and encourages discussion on your blog or website. This is done via comment threading, replying via email and an ability to import and export comments.
What’s in store for us users?
Automattic plans on keeping IntenseDebate an independent entity as was in the case of Gravatar. Which means that even non-WordPress users have an opportunity of using the service.
Currently IntenseDebate has been converted to a private beta by invitation only. I’ve applied. Should be interesting to see how it goes.
Comments has always been a problem with WordPress and just about any other blogging system. Of late it has just gotten worse.
Will IntenseDebate become an integral part of WordPress? It is a good possibility, just has Gravatar and Akismet come bundled in WordPress. I am pretty sure that it will become a part of WordPress.com first.
Matt has already revealed what plans are in store for IntenseDebate. I’d love to see some of the features being implemented, especially the threaded comments and more importantly the moderation via email and replies to comments via email.
What do you think about this acquisition?
