We’re now on WordPress 2.7

We’re finally running on WordPress 2.7. I also plan on changing the theme that this blog is running to one more suited for a technology blog. I’m still working on the details. Have narrowed in on a few themes for this purpose. What remains is customization to accommodate all the features we have out here. I’m also wondering on whether to open registrations on this blog. Am not sure how this will help users. Alternatively I’ll implement Google Friend connect or Facebook connect or OpenID. Looking for feedback about this. If you notice any problems out here currently, do let…

Stop Google from tracking your Chrome usage

When Google Chrome launched, everyone jumped to embrace the new browser. Unfortunately, each Google Chrome installation contains a unique ID that allowing identifying its user. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like anyone or anything tracking my usage, especially not a company as powerful as Google. Well, you can stop that with a tiny software from Abelssoft titled UnChrome. It replaces your unique ID with Null values so that your browser cannot be identified any longer. Simply download UnChrome and hit “Remove unique ID now” and your Chrome is anonymous now. Download UnChrome

Send Greetings this Holiday Season with YouTube

Come this holiday season and it’s time for greetings. I’ve been sending online greetings for years now and YouTube has decided that it’s time to join the list of online greeting sites. Browse to YouTube Greetings, select a video and hit Sent this video as a greeting card. If you have a webcam, you can even choose to record your own video and then send it. You can then type a greeting and enter a comma separated list of recipients (upto 25). The question does remain that how many videos are really suitable to be sent? How many will you…

WordPress – Yesterday, today, forever(?)

I’ve been using WordPress for more than five years now and have seen it through all its revisions. For those of you who came online recently, take a look at a picture journey through the several years of WordPress. Looking at 2.7 released recently, you’ll never realize the rough interface that we used to blog five years ago. Ozh also implemented a WordPress Functions Implementation History Tool which will let you search across nearly 2500 functions through 45 WordPress releases, i.e. right from 0.7.1 upto the latest 2.7. This is ofcourse for developers who need to make sure their plugin…

Backup your files with SyncBack (Tool Tuesday)

Keeping your files safe is one worrisome issue. I have multiple backups of my files, both on an external hard disk as well as on two online file backup services. When you have a few hundred megabytes to backup, you can just replace the folder time and time again. However, this is seldom practical when you are talking a few gigabytes of data. This is where synchronization software come into play. One software I have been using since a long time to backup my data is called SyncBack. SyncBack Freeware is a program that helps you easily backup and synchronize…
