Organizing your Start Menu with Tidy Start Menu

Over a period of time one thing that definitely happens to your Windows is a cluttered Start Menu.

To keep my Start Menu organized, while installing a program I ensure that I put the start menu shortcuts that are created into folders and subfolders.

Unfortunately, all programs don't have friendly installers and a good number of times a lot of the Start Menu shortcuts remain in the main Programs folder itself.

I then have to manually move them into the subfolders.

Tidy Start Menu makes this process a lot easier.

For setting the menu in order, the program offers you to categorize the Menu. For example, the Internet programs can be put into the "Internet" category, while all games can be included in the "Games" category. Thus, after using the program, you will have a compact menu, which will contain nothing but categories' names.
Therefore, it will be no trouble to find a necessary program.

Tidy Start Menu

It is available in two versions, a freeware and a $19.95 shareware. The screenshot above is of the freeware.

Free version features:

  • Configure the menus for all users of your PC and hide unnecessary programs from your children or employees.
  • Remove obsolete shortcuts from Start Menu.
  • Import/Export wizard to XML file
  • Backup/Restore start menu wizard

The paid version includes:

  • Start Menu Icon Wizard.
  • Quick Uninstall any program by just right clicking its shortcut.
  • Creation of your own categories
  • Free subscription to all new versions of the program
  • Priority support

For most users, the free version should be more than sufficient. You have nine categories in all (ten if you leave certain program uncategorized).

This is definitely worth giving a shot to bring some order to your Start Menu and make your applications easier to find!

What do you use to tidy your start menu?
