Yahoo! Messenger rocks and so does Windows Live.
AIM used to be the ugly duckling but today it has turned out to be a beautiful swan!
Check out newly released version of AOL Instant Messenger 6.0.
The inteface has received a major overhaul and so has its features.
For starters, you can now send offline messages to your buddies. In addition to that the buddy list support has been doubled to 1000. You can also share pictures with your buddies.
IM windows can now be grouped together.
And complete integration with AIM Phoneline means you can now indulge in PC to PC Voice chat.
Lastly, it also has deeper integration with AIM Pages. I have an AIM Pages account so it can be useful.
However, my primary clients are Yahoo! Messenger, MSN Messenger and Google Talk as I have most my pals on these three networks.
PC World reports that AOL is in talks with Google about linking AIM to Google Talk as well as other networks. If that happens I will happily start using AOL instead of Google Talk because AOL definitely has a lot better features that Google Talk today.
Download AIM 6.0 now »
It initially downloads a 315KB file which on running downloads the rest of the program from the internet.
I hate such kind of system and unfortunately Yahoo! too does the same

I love the organization (the box that keeps all your conversations) and I love how it tells you when people in other boxes are typing. But I can’t figure out how to edit my buddy list like I used to with the old version of AIM… (Do you know how to do this?) and I also don’t like the new smilies. I use a small font so my smilies used to be small and less detailed too. Now they’re big and ugly.

Hi Kim,
I’m not much of an AIM user, because I don’t have any friends on it
So, a little clueless how to edit the buddy list. But, can’t you just click and delete or something?

Well the way it used to work is that you could click a button and your buddy list would appear in a new box. For here you could delete, sort, and create new groups. With the new AIM you can only add a new person by typing their name into a box.. you can’t sort or edit the buddy list as a whole.
And i still miss my smilies. haha

I believe there could be some menu tucked away someplace that lets you do that.
Sometimes “features” added can be a real pain!

why would anyone want an opinion on a piece of software from someone who doesn’t use it?
it’s clear that someone was paid to create this one-sided review; especially since there are so many other IM programs that are more versatile, less taxing on your system, more customizable, and smaller.
google “pidgin” and find the best. it works across all IM networks for crying out loud! shouldn’t you be able to IM people that use Googletalk or Microsoft Messenger? or would you rather totally ignore them?

1. Nobody paid me for this, if they did, it would have been mentioned.
2. You need to read line no. 1 of this post.
